HISTIOCYTE SOCIETY STRATEGIC PLAN

STRATEGIC PLAN OVERVIEW
In 2016 the Histiocyte Society established a strategic plan to guide its mission of advancing knowledge and improving outcomes for patients with histiocytic disorders.  In order to build on this foundation, the Executive Board updated the strategic plan in 2023 with the aim of addressing evolving challenges and opportunities in the field.

CORE VALUES  

At the heart of our organization lies a set of core values that define who we are and guide our actions. These values embody our commitment to advancing knowledge, improving patient outcomes, and fostering a supportive community dedicated to histiocytic disorders. By upholding these principles in all that we do, we strive to make a meaningful and lasting impact in the field while staying true to our mission and vision.


2023 STRATEGIC GOALS

Through the strategic planning process, 4 main goals were identified, taking into consideration the goals previously identified in 2016, as well as the results of a SWOT analysis:

1. COORDINATING ORGANIZATION

Purpose: For the HS to become the ‘go to’ institution for everything pertaining to histiocytosis research and treatment that integrates disciplines, coordinates clinical and research efforts, and helps with communication surrounding all things related to histiocytosis.  The 

Functions: 

  • Foster collaboration
  • Standardize data
  • Provide trial, registry and biorepository information
Opportunities and Benchmarks of Success:
  • Hold annual meetings 
  • Partnerships
  • Webinars
  • Harmonization efforts




2. INCREASED VISIBILITY

Purpose: For the HS to become a recognized name associated with research and education in histiocytic disorders, and a valued resource for information for researchers and clinicians  

Functions: 

        • Improve website
        • Attend relevant meetings
        • Expand social media
Opportunities and Benchmarks of Success:
        • Website updates
        • Meeting attendance
        • Social media engagement

3. GLOBAL PRESENCE

Purpose: For the HS activities and growth to extend to areas of the world that have previously not received as much focus such as Eastern and Southeastern Asia, Latin America, Middle East and Africa, thus trickling down and benefiting large numbers of patients and families with histiocytosis

Functions: 

        • Increase participation
        • Provide education and guidelines
Opportunities and Benchmarks of Success:
        • Regional meetings
        • Partnerships
        • Tailored resources

4. NEXT GENERATION

Purpose: For the Society to grow and continue to function at a high level by increasing efforts to recruit, support and provide opportunities for young investigators, thereby bringing on the newest and most innovative research and benefiting patients by optimizing survival and minimizing late effects

Functions: 

        • Recruit
        • Mentor
        • Provide opportunities

        • Reduced fees
        • Grants
        • Mentorship programs
        • Involvement in activities

The Histiocyte Society's strategic plan underscores our commitment to advancing research, improving patient care, and fostering collaboration globally.  Through coordinated efforts and engagement, the Society aims to strengthen its position as a leader in histiocytic disorders.
