I anticipate that you have all seen the recent JAMA report on 138 patient with nCoV (JAMA.2020.1585, published online 07FEB2020) .

In my opinion, while the report does not detail all of necessary data on the patients to optimally assess for hyperinflammation, the relatively short duration of hospitalization (7-14 days), rise in ANC in the ICU patients (although note steroid administration),median age for ICU patients was 67 and lack of other classic HLH-94 or H Score elements do not strongly support HLH as a part of the pathophysiology.

The SOFA score,  as that is not specific for sepsis in the setting of proven HLH, is difficult to interpret.

Note that 72% of ICU patients received steroids, doses not specified.

I support education on  HLH and continued reasonable vigilance for HLH via prospective data collection and expert consultation.
